About us

Ohel Yaacob means Jacob's tent. It stands for beauty, modesty and unity.

Our story

In 1980 a small group of families started a neighborhood minyan in Deal, meeting in back yards and garages, to serve the growing Syrian community on the Jersey Shore.

Within a few years there were about 150 members and the minyan needed a permanent home. Construction of our building was completed in 1984.

Today more than 750 members join us each Shabbat, so many that minyanim sometimes move mid-service to make room. Rabbi Mansour's Seuda Shelishit derasha draws more than 500 people, as many as our banquet hall can hold.

Our name

The congregation is named for Chief Rabbi Jacob S. Kassin ZT"L, a great sage and leader.

Hacham Baruch Ben Haim ZT"L served as our Chief Rabbi and spiritual leader for nearly twenty years.

What we are here for

To enrich our community spiritually, preserve our traditions and serve Hashem.

We nurture spiritual growth across every generation, with special care for our youth, through welcoming minyanim, an extensive roster of Torah classes, and programs for young and old.
